Campaign to get medicinal cannabis listed on PBS

Campaign to get medicinal cannabis listed on PBS

Legalise Cannabis WA MP Dr. Brian Walker has initiated a campaign aimed at persuading the federal government to include medicinal cannabis on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).

Cannabiz Post

Advocates for this change can send an automated email to their elected representative and sign a parliamentary petition through Dr. Walker’s website.

Dr. Walker stated, “I encounter patients almost daily who could benefit from medicinal cannabis for various recognized ailments, ranging from chronic pain to anxiety and insomnia. However, many cannot afford the cost associated with a prescription.

“Both federal and state governments across Australia will claim that medicinal cannabis is legal, but if it’s not affordable and easily accessible for patients who require it, how beneficial is that statement?”

Medicinal Cannabis and Australian drug driving laws

Medicinal Cannabis and Australian drug driving laws

Attorney Mat Henderson discusses potential solutions to the drug driving law deadlock and shares his experience in defending a professional driver (and avid Storm fan) who faced penalties due to medicinal cannabis use.

Drive Change Feature

“It’s the attainment of justice and fairness that gives lawyers their buzz.”

This sentiment was shared by The Hon Michael Kirby during one of his many visits to UTS Law School in the 2000s. However, in reality, there’s little to no buzz for a lawyer doing pro-bono work for medicinal cannabis cases. Having spent five years on this type of work, I can attest to that. It’s more of a grind, involving listening to heart-wrenching patient stories and organising doctors’ letters, which feels more like trying to hold back the tide than practising law.

The lack of excitement comes from an inability to “change the law” in the traditional way by going to courts, arguing the unique facts of your case, setting a precedent, and altering the law (a significant oversimplification).

Legalising cannabis could earn Australia $28 billion

Legalising cannabis could earn Australia $28 billion

By legalising and taxing cannabis, the Australian government could generate over $30 billion in a decade, as per the recent policy costings from the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO).

visit thenewdaily.com.au/finance/finance-news/2023…

The New Daily

This week, the Greens published PBO figures indicating that a legal cannabis industry could produce $28 billion in public revenue over a decade if taxed at 15%, or $36 billion at 25%.

Under a proposal suggested by the Greens, a new federal agency would control cannabis prices and serve as an intermediary between growers and a closely regulated retail sector.

Australia, like many other countries, has a changing relationship with cannabis, which was first prohibited by Canberra in 1926.

Fresh calls to change laws

Fresh calls to change state’s medicinal cannabis driving laws

A physician cautions that the existing laws in a certain state are compelling people with chronic illnesses to rely on addictive prescription medications.

News.com.au Feature

A doctor has cautioned that Victoria’s current cannabis legislation is leading numerous individuals with chronic illnesses to rely on addictive prescription medications instead.

This warning comes as new proposed laws for the state are being considered, which would permit users to drive with detectable amounts of the drug in their system.

Members of the Legalise Cannabis Party, who secured two seats in the previous election, introduced the bill to the upper house on Wednesday. The proposed changes to the Road Safety Act would remove the offence of having detectable tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in one’s blood or oral fluid for drivers who are otherwise not impaired.

Findings from our recent study with CSIRO released

Findings from our recent study with CSIRO released

Cannatrek is excited to share the results of our recent partnership with CSIRO, which concentrated on comprehending the essential nutrient requirements of the cannabis plant.

Media Release

Up until now, scientific literature regarding medicinal cannabis mineral nutrition has been limited. These findings bolster the Australian cannabis industry’s growth by creating intellectual property and enriching the sector’s knowledge.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to CSIRO for joining Cannatrek on this journey and contributing to the crucial research that benefits patients across Australia.

Australia, Japan and Thailand: the Green Triangle

Australia, Japan and Thailand: the Green Triangle

I recently travelled to Thailand and Japan to establish The Green Triangle – an exciting new research and development collaboration that brings together industry leaders from Australia, Japan, and Thailand.

The Green Triangle is an exhilarating new research and development collaboration that involves medicinal cannabis industry leaders and researchers from Australia, Japan, and Thailand.

In 2023, Green Triangle partners plan to set up an R&D medicinal cannabis farm near the city of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. At this location, we will develop landrace strains and a breeding program utilizing Cannatrek genetics.

Our objective is to collect agronomic data and bolster the argument for plant-based medicine production and distribution. By establishing and expanding trade and knowledge transfer relationships, we ultimately aim to simplify and secure access to the necessary treatments for patients.

Unlike the common Monstera or Devil’s Ivy, the cannabis plant has only recently gained recognition for its medical benefits. While the positive effects of plant medicine have just entered the mainstream, Cannatrek founder Tommy Huppert has been aware of the value of plant-based therapies for quite some time.

“It’s an ancient medicine that’s making a comeback, offering an alternative to more traditional chemical medicine,” Tommy explained.

In 2017, Cannatrek initiated its first site in Brisbane, Queensland, featuring a dedicated research and development greenhouse facility. The site generates crucial research and medical treatment for over 30,000 patients.

A boost for agriculture jobs and training

A boost for agriculture jobs and training

Over 75 jobs are anticipated to be generated when the new medicinal cannabis production facility, developed by Cannatrek at Lemnos, becomes fully operational.

Shepparton News

On April 14, Regional Development Minister Mary-Anne Thomas visited the facility to announce a grant from the Victorian Government’s Regional Jobs Fund for Cannatrek.

Established in 2016, the Australian-owned company produces medical cannabis at its Queensland research and development greenhouse facility for over 6,000 patients.

The Greater Shepparton development will be the first production facility located outside of Queensland.

This project will enable Cannatrek to depend on locally produced cannabis from Australia rather than relying on imports.

Creating a corner of the field for the patient

Creating a corner of the field for the patient

Numerous individuals inquire about how Cannatrek has managed to excel in a competitive industry while still providing affordable medication to those who need it.

Cannatrek Post

I often show people the informal business plan we drafted years ago, which is based on the timeless principle of giving back. I frequently say, “That’s our secret ingredient.”

Our approach is straightforward – we are dedicated to carving out a space for patients where access is difficult.

We envisioned the Cannatrek Foundation even before obtaining our licenses. I’m thrilled to announce that we recently applied to incorporate the Cannatrek Foundation, allowing us to do even more.

Our commitment to giving back remains steadfast. Just last week, my CFO informed me that, in the past 12 months, Cannatrek has provided over $1,000,000 in subsidies to disadvantaged individuals, military veterans, first responders, and low-income patients.

While this is remarkable, there’s still more work to be done. In 2023, we’ll continue our efforts to make medicinal cannabis accessible and affordable for those in need.
